Hello there from the great northwest, it's been a while. The weather has been wonderful, we had a little heat way at the end of "winter" that has allowed us to get our yard up and going. So between that and some unforeseen happenings up North. I haven't touched this blog at all.
That being said, we have been busy in the back yard over the last month or so. I built a 6ft cedar fence across the back of the yard with a double gate, and we've covered the grass on over half of the back yard with raised beds and covered the ground with weed cloth and bark. Our goal is to make a more eco friendly, easy to up keep yard that will produce some beautiful flowers and food all year round.
We were able to get a bunch of veggies planted, but some of the leafier(kale, lettuce, spinach) didn't take the heat wave to well and went into seed already, we'll try those again this fall in containers rather tan in the beds. The rest of the garden is going pretty good, we've got some broccoli, two different types of carrots, peas, beans, squashes, trying our hand a pickles, strawberries, artichokes, fennel, onions, a couple tomatoes, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some thing.
Our 5 different types of bamboo are doing great, all but one type have new shoots. We were worried that some of our older transplanted Arrow wasn't going to bounce back for a few years due to the stress of transplanting, that's what a lot of the books say. But we've got new shoots on at least 3 of the clumps and I was able to start a new pot off some of the rhizomes we cut off the clump before planting. Also bot the pots of bissetti also sent, new shoots as well as the variegated stuff I got form my parents. Now if the crooked stem would shoot, I'd be super stoked!.!
So never satisfied with the yard, Lori and I have plans to finish the fence at least along the south boarder, rip out the current back porch and add a covered porch in it's place, as well throwing up another covered porch/ chill spot/ outdoor shop area off the garage, but with the all these plans who knows what will get done first. All in good time.
I've started going through the thousands of photos I've taken of the remodel, holy cow are there a lot of them. I've half assed started sifting through the good and the bad and will start going back over what we've done to the inside of the house in the next few posts.
(Will add photos after they been uploaded to the PC)
Thanks again for reading,
Nate and Lori
